Happy February everyone. Below is a list of events happening in your neighborhood this month.

For those following the events surrounding the property at 1130 Cedar Avenue please SAVE THE DATE:  Thursday, March 18 at 5:00pm and attend the scheduled Planning Commission Hearing where the appeal filed by WCHA is tentatively scheduled to be discussed.

In January WCHA filed an appeal opposing the Cultural Heritage Commissions decision to approve the Certificate of Authenticity to construct a 960-square-foot-four-car-garage in the front portion of the lot in PD-10 (subarea1) of the Drake Park / Willmore City Historic District.

Bicycle Master Plan Workshop


Want to help make Long Beach and Willmore City Historic District more livable and bike-friendly? Participate in a Bicycle Master Plan Update community workshop being hosted in the 1st District.

Through Bicycle Master Plan workshops, you will have the opportunity to both learn about and experience innovative bicycle facility treatments, including bike boulevards, sharrows, while participating in planning of an innovative alternative transportation system that serves users of all ages and skill levels.

Code Enforcement Meeting

This meeting gives neighbors a platform to report code violations they observe occurring in the Willmore City / Drake Park Historic District and the West End neighborhoods with a City of Long Beach Code Enforcement representative.

Monthly Meeting: WCHA Accomplishments & Goals

A presentation of current WCHA projects, sharing milestones and completed projects, and a discussion of member goals for the up-and-coming year.

Also we will be introducing a collaboration titled:  What you see in your community. Long Beach resident and architecture graduate student Amber Lake is conducting a neighborhood survey of the Willmore City Historic for her thesis project.  She is seeking information regarding the residents perception of the place they live.  For further information please see the Willmore Walks section below.

Rose Pruning Workshop at the Bembridge House

The Bembridge House Gardeners will be hosting a rose pruning workshop featuring Linda Renner, Consulting Rosarian, OC Rose Society.  Tips on tools, tool cleaning, types of roses, pruning roses, and practice pruning roses in the Bembridge Garden.

Willmore Walks: What you see in your community!


In collaboration with the WCHA, Long Beach resident and architecture graduate student Amber Lake is conducting a neighborhood survey of the Willmore City Historic for her thesis project.   Amber is seeking information regarding the residents perception of the place they live.  The survey will be conducted during this months Willmore Walk.   As we tour the neighborhood, we will complete the survey and photograph ones observations.  Amber will share the results of the survey with WCHA after her results are assembled.

The first 14 people to sign up will receive disposable cameras to use on the walk, others will be asked to bring their digital cameras.  Sign-up for the walk at this months meeting or email emily@willmorecity.org.
