Neighborhood Highlight: Willmore Baking Company

Chef Alan supporting the community at a tea party fundraiser

This past year, Chef Alan was a very busy chef. Since the pandemic shut down our baking classes, Chef Alan found other ways to help the community. For instance, he started baking for nonprofit fundraisers outside the limits of Willmore City, with no cost for labor. He also worked with Rancho Los Alamitos for two events by baking decorated iced Christmas cookies, then baked even more cookies for The Bembridge House Annual Holiday tours.

Several classrooms asked for undecorated gingerbread people for their Christmas parties, and the room parents provided candy so each child could decorate their own cookie. In addition, the Downtown Long Beach Alliance was treated to a Christmas tree marzipan Danish as a thank you for all the support this past year.

Chef Alan also baked cookies and gingerbread kits and sold them at the Winter in Willmore event. The funds raised provided support for classes reopening this year. Finally, Willmore Baking Company started teaching a monthly class in the elementary and teen after-school-programs at Cesar Chavez Park this past January. We will announce the start of adult classes on Facebook when the time and date is set.

Wishing everyone a joyous year,

Sheila Gibbons, Willmore Baking Company
