Winter in Willmore!

Join WCHA this Saturday, December 7th at 5pm at the Bembridge House for our Annual Winter in Willmore event!

Winter in Willmore will include:

  • 13 local Market vendors to buy goods from!

  • Pictures with Santa Claus himself.

  • 5 children activities (holiday garlands, gingerbread decorating, and more).

  • Queen Victoria and Prince Albert will be making an appearance.

  • DJ Jasper playing in the background!

  • Bembridge House Tours - tickets can be purchased day of.

  • Enjoy a variety of food truck options.

  • A tree package giveaway to 4 lucky families!

  • And, more!

Tree Planting!

WCHA, in collaboration with the Long Beach Office of Sustainability, is teaming up with community residents for two tree planting events this fall in Willmore City: October 12th and November 16th. In total, up to 60 trees will be planted in parkways to enhance the neighborhood.

Interested in planting a tree in your parkway? Fill out our survey here.

Street trees play a vital role in keeping our neighborhoods cooler and healthier. Communities with abundant trees experience lower temperatures during hot days, reducing energy usage and creating a more pleasant environment for residents.Your participation is essential in making our community greener and more sustainable. Join us at the Bembridge House for our July Community Meeting, where we have an exciting lineup planned with special guests from the City of Long Beach Technology and Innovation Department and the Port of Long Beach.

City of Long Beach Tech & Innovation Office will be joining us to discuss a new Technology Project in Willmore City. Experience the LB Co-Lab, a fresh approach to community-driven smart cities that focuses on investing in technology tailored to community needs. This initiative also aims to educate community members on navigating the tech landscape effectively.

Chief Harbor Engineer Suzanne Plezia will also be joining us to present ongoing sustainable efforts at the Port and the Pier Wind project. Learn about the economic and environmental impacts and how Pier Wind contributes to long-term sustainability goals.

Earth Fair!

Willmore City Heritage Association and Sowing Seeds of Change have teamed up to host an incredible sustainability event. Earth Day Festival will be held on Saturday, June 29th at the Sowing Seeds of Change Urban Farm from 11am-3pm.

This free family friendly event will feature workshops on sustainability, gardening, composting, and green infrastructure. There will also be engaging activities for children, hands-on booths, a farmer's market pantry with fresh produce to take home, complimentary lunch for the first 50 guests, children's scavenger hunt, and various other fun-filled activities.

Joining us for this event are: Ground Education, LB Sustainability, Grow2Zero LB Recycles, Arts Council for LB, and Senator Lena Gonzalez's Office!

Earth Day Festival

Willmore City Heritage Association and Sowing Seeds of Change have teamed up to host an incredible sustainability event. The Earth Day Festival will be held on Saturday, May 4th at the Sowing Seeds of Change Urban Farm from 11am-3pm. Sowing Seeds is an urban farm located in the heart of Willmore City that provides locally grown fresh food and vocational training to marginalized youth. 

This free public event will offer workshops on sustainability, gardening/composting/seed saving, above-ground crop cultivation and green infrastructure. The festival will also include sustainable activities for children, hands-on activity booths, a farmer's market pantry to take home fresh produce, complimentary lunch, children's yoga, and many other exciting activities.

We've got a fantastic lineup planned, including a presentation from Silissa Uriarte, founder of Purpose Centered Coaching & Consulting and her incredible non-profit organization. Plus, you'll hear directly from Council District 1's office, DLBA, and South District’s Police Department. We hope to see you there!

A little more information on Purpose Centered Coaching & Consulting: Silissa Uriarte Smith founded PCCC in 2021 and received incorporation as a 501c3 in late 2022. The core aim of PCCC is to create inclusive, equitable, and accessible spaces for underserved women who require support to transform their own lives, families, and communities. PCCC offers individual and group coaching sessions, leadership development workshops, and networking events at low to no cost. Additionally, PCCC provides consulting services to emerging non-profits at sliding scale rates based on their organizational budgets. The services offered include coaching, strategic planning, capacity-building services, staff and board development, group facilitation, workshops, DEIB statements and policies, and retreats.

In previous years, Winter in Willmore provided hundreds of community members the opportunity to celebrate the holiday’s at Drake Park. This year, Winter in Willmore is making a change! The event will be held at the nationally recognized historic, Bembridge House. This event will be free and open to the public. 

Winter in Willmore will include:

  • 13 local market vendors to buy goodies from!

  • Pictures with Santa Claus himself.

  • 5 children activities (holiday garlands, flower crowns, gingerbread decorating, and more)

  • Children school supplies to give away to community children.

  • Queen Victoria and Prince Albert will be making an appearance.

  • DJ Jasper playing in the background!

  • Bembridge House Tours! Please note - Long Beach Heritage is graciously opening the doors to the Bembridge House for tours. Tickets for the tours can be purchased day of.

CD1's 3rd Annual Holiday Party

Council District 1’s office invites you to their 3rd annual holiday party at the Westin Hotel on Wednesday, December 13th from 6:30-8pm! All our welcome - residents, community partners, and more! They will be providing refreshments. 

Please note - CD1 will be accepting unwrapped toy donations during their annual holiday party to give out to community children during this holiday season.
