Bio: Zoe Nicholson is an artist, author, and activist. Zoe’s life’s devotion is to the advancement of women and girls. Her obsession is Miss Alice Paul and the Equal Rights Amendment. Zoe received her B.A. in Theology from Quincy University in 1969 and an M.A. in Ethics from USC in 1975.
She began her professional life teaching high school for five years. In 1976, she opened and operated The Magic Speller Bookstore, a women’s bookstore in Newport Beach. In 1982, she joined six other women at the Illinois state capital to publicly fast in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. Her memoir, from Lune Soleil Press, "The Hungry Heart: A Woman’s Fast for Justice," recounts her 37 days of fasting in the torrent of the fight for the ERA.
In January 2019, she was featured on PBS’ We’ll Meet Again with Anne Curry. In 2022, Zoe was featured in the film, Still Working 9 to 5, starring Parton, Fonda, and Tomlin. Zoe’s one-woman show, Tea with Alice and Me, tells the story of Alice Paul, architect of the 19th Amendment and the Equal Rights Amendment, as well as Zoe’s life as an activist.
