An Exciting Spin on This Month's Recipe!

Chef Alan is delighted to pass on the recipe section of the newsletter to a friend this month. Rest assured, you will adore this Toffee Bars Recipe. Chef Alan had a taste of these treats at the recent Historic District Meeting at the Bembridge house and was impressed. You are sure to love them too. A very special thanks to Michele Arend-Ekhoff from Craftsman’s Village Historic District for the recipe.

To Start:

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees

  • Grease a 13x9 inch baking pan

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 sticks of sweet butter

  • 1 cup of brown sugar

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 2 cups of unbleached all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup of coarsely chopped

Directions:

  • Cream butter and sugar together

  • Add egg and beat well

  • Sift in flour mixing well

  • Add vanilla

  • Spread batter into baking pan

  • Bake for 25 minutes

  • Cover the cake with chocolate chips and return to the oven for 4 minutes to melt

  • Remove from oven and spread melted chocolate evenly and top with chopped nuts

  • Cool completely before cutting into about 30 bars
